Ho, Feb. 18, GNA - Government has allocated funds through the Ministry of Youth and Sports towards the development of sports infrastructure at the Ho Polytechnic in the Volta Region. Dr Samuel Addo, Local Organizing Chairman (LOC) of the 22nd edition of the Ghana Polytechnic Sports Association (GHAPSA) Games disclosed this in an interview with the GNA Sports on Wednesday. The Chairman who did not disclose how much was involved, said the funds would be used for the construction of two volleyball and basketball courts each and hope it would help develop and unearth talents among the students.

Dr Addo said there has been an improvement not only in the performance of the athletes but the organisation in this year's Games although there were a few challenges there were encountered. He mentioned lack of adequate sports infrastructure which resulted in the athletes shuttling from one venue to the other outside the Polytechnic as a major challenge.

"We have to use a Civic Centre located at Anlokordzi and the 66 Artillery facilities for some of the events which indicate that we don't have the facilities," he said. Dr Addo commended government for its efforts to improve sports development, especially at the school and tertiary levels, adding that it is one of the unifying forces across the country that would go a long way in unearthing talents especially at the grassroots. 18 Feb. 10
