The vice president of the Ghana Football Association George Afriyie has played down reports that external hand coerced the Association to appoint Kwesi Appiah as Avram Grant's successor

However in an interview with pressmen, the, Black Stars management committee chairman debunked those allegations stating that Kwesi Appiah's records did the trick for him.

Reacting to a question on whether the Government pressured the GFA, Afriyie said “Am sure you know when it comes to the FA of course, you cannot say that you work without necessarily listening to advice from different quarters even form the media, but I don’t think anybody put pressure on us”

He maintained that of the three coaches that were shortlisted by the 6-member panel, Kwesi Appiah impressed them most hence the decision to hand him the post that has been vacant since Israeli trainer Avram Grant parted ways with the Black Stars after the 2017 AFCON

Kwesi Appiah has been given a two-year mandate to qualify Ghana to the 2018 World cup and also clinch the 2019
