Government unwavering in the development of sports infrastructure

Hohoe, July 8, GNA - The Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Victor-Hermann Condobrey has asserted that government's development agenda of providing the requisite infrastructure for sports development was unwavering. He said work towards the construction of a befitting sports stadium for the Municipality to harness and nurture budding talents in the area would be expedited.

The Municipal Chief Executive gave the assurance on Thursday during the 14th Anniversary celebration, which coincided with the annual meet of the Volta Regional Keep Fit Clubs Association at Hohoe. It was on the theme, "Keep Fit Awareness: Gains and Challenges." Mr Condobrey called for conscious efforts at sponsoring Keep Fit Clubs and sports in general to derive the needed socio-economic and health benefits from exercises and games. Madam Agnes Abefe, General-Secretary of National Sports For All Association (NASFAAG) said general fitness ensures good health, promotes productivity and a self-reliant society.

She called on both public and private institutions to embrace the Keep Fit concept and make it part of their shared corporate responsibilities. Mr Emmanuel Ankora, out-going President of Keep Fit Clubs Association said 35 registered Clubs constitute the Association with many more yet to formalize their registration and inclusion. He bemoaned the decline in the teaching of physical education in the school system despite its contribution to the physical, psychological, social and health benefits to students and pupils. Mr Ankora called for sponsorship packages from stakeholders including corporate institutions, companies, NGOs and especially the National Health Insurance Authority.

Mr Israel Nornyibey, Events and Promotion Representative of Promasidor Ghana Limited, producers of Cowbell milk said the company sponsored the event with 6,200 Ghana Cedis made up of cash prizes and products. He said Promasidor believes in promoting healthy lifestyles through sports and nutrition and was in the third year of sponsorship partnership with the Association.

The Clubs competed in various sporting disciplines including tug of peace, a marathon race, football and volleyball. An eight-member newly Executive body headed by Mr Victor G. K. Gedzeve was sworn into office to steer the affairs of the Association. 08 July 10
