Ghana Football Association have clarified their position following reports of the resignation of Black Stars coach Avram Grant, indicating that the Israeli will leave when his contract expires later this month.

In an interview with Sky Sports on Tuesday, Grant said he was ‘moving on to a new challenge’, 21 days to the end of his contract with Ghana national team.

The former Chelsea manager has come under fire following the Black Stars’ poor showing at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, finishing on a disappointing fourth position.

"The Ghana Football Association and Black Stars Head coach Abraham Grant have agreed that the two parties will mutually part ways after their contract ends on February 28," a GFA statement read.

"Both parties have agreed that the contract shall be allowed to run its full course.

"Both parties have mutually agreed not to renew the contract upon its expiry.

"Any accrued rights and obligations under the contract shall be observed by both parties.

"Notwithstanding the fact that the contract shall run until the 28th February 2017, both parties agree that the Ghana Football Association is at liberty to commence the process of searching and appointing a new coach for the Senior National Team of Ghana, the Black Stars.

"Mr Abraham Grant is also at liberty to begin negotiations with prospective employers."

Grant was appointed in December 2014, leading the Black Stars to the final of the 2015 Afcon two months later, losing to Cote d'Ivoire on penalties.
