The Director of Vida cycling programme (VICYPRO), Vida Vivie, has expressed worries how female cycling in Ghana is not recognized. She said female cycling has an important role in contributing to the health and wellbeing of female riders.

Speaking at the annual female Grass Track Cycling programme at Apeguso in the Eastern region, she express concerns how parent and guardian’s misconception about female cycling have affected females in exposing their hidden talents.

She stressed that, Vida cycling programme acts as a strategic leader among other organizations in the promotion, participation and encouragement in cycling sports and to bridge the gap of discouraging females from ridding.

Vida cycling programme is an NGO and organizers of an almost forgotten aspect of our sport in the country “Grass track cycling”.

The event brought together 13 female cyclists in the Eastern region. Grass Track cycling is ideally suited to entry level racing.

The event can be organized on any flat field with unused football pitches being a perfect area to set up a track.

The track itself can be marked out accurately, enabling times to be compared over a series of events or more simply by laying out a rough oval of markers with a start/finish line. Races are short, enabling riders to experience a number of different races at any single event.

There are a large number of event possibilities in Grass Track racing. Among the races include; The Scratch Race, Individual One Lap Time Trial, Devil' Takes the Hindmost Points Race and the Team Pursuit. Hunandi Vivian 17 years, of Osiabura Junior High school came the overall winner as she disqualified 8 riders in the event to take home the 1st prize.

She took away One Bicycle, a cash prize and a Trophy for her outstanding performance.

Toka Rachel came 2nd with Akornorbea Benedicta coming 3rd. Clemens Rudolf a representative of Technik & Solidaritat, a German based NGO partnering the programme said cycling has a lot to offer the country and the individual therefore their willingness to develop cycling and make it a bigger sports in the country.
