Accra, July 10, GNA - Accra Great Olympics beat St. Mirren 1-0 in a Division One League top liner played at the Indafa Park in Accra on Saturday.

Andy Pomaye scored on 20 minutes with a back-heeled effort to give the former premiership side the maximum three points and send their haul to nine from three matches.

The striker benefited from lack of concentration on the part of the St. Mirren defenders during a melee and linked up with a threaded back heel attempt by his co strike partner, Sumaila Abubakar to hit the back of the net.

St Mirren had the opportunity to take the lead in the second minute when referee John Listowel Zilevu awarded them a penalty after an accidental hand ball by an Olympics defender.

Isaac Kpakpo shot the ball tamely and goalkeeper John Adjetey saved to draw applause from the large crowd that turned out for the match.

The exchanges went in favour of St. Mirren after the penalty miss but Starlets skipper Emmanuel Ansong and his colleagues steeled in defence and kept their opponents' attackers at bay.

In the second half, St Mirren increased their zeal to even scores, as they stayed on top in possession but Francis Mantey fought bravely in the middle, while Nimo Mohammed gave good cover to his goalkeeper.

When the referee blew his final whistle, hell broke loose as supporters of St. Mirren chased him with clubs and stones. He was however whisked to safety by the Fire Service personnel who provided security at the Park.
