A former Kumasi Asante Kotoko player, Mark Adu Amofah, has stated that footballing authorities in Ghana are fixated on prioritising their personal interests over doing the right things.

He stated that persons in charge of football have shifted their focus from nurturing talents and enhancing their skills to undermining their principles to enrich themselves.

The former Liberty Professionals player called on stakeholders to come on board to restore integrity and accountability to deal with the rot and improve sporting fortunes.

“Ghana football has faced a troubling decline in integrity and honesty, with many men who once upheld these values seemingly succumbing to personal interests. The beautiful game, which once thrived on passion, teamwork, and fair play, now often appears overshadowed by greed and self-serving motives.

“The focus has shifted from nurturing talent and promoting sportsmanship to prioritizing financial gain, with some individuals willing to compromise their principles for personal gain. Restoring trust in Ghana football requires a collective effort to foster a culture where honesty and accountability are paramount,” Amofah wrote on X.

His comment comes as members of the public continue to voice their grievances over the poor performances of the various national teams, especially the Black Stars.

The Black Stars are on the brink of failing to qualify for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco for the first time in 20 years following a disastrous performance.

After four matches played, Ghana are third in Group F with two points, Sudan are in second place with seven points, while Angola leads with twelve points.

The Black Stars will travel to face Angola and play the last match against Niger in Ghana in November 2024.
