Accra, Feb 25, GNA - Gunther Darkey, Ghana's number two seed of the Golden Rackets, the national Tennis team has arrived in the country ahead of the team's crucial Euro-African Zone II Davis Cup tie against Finland next month.

The player arrived on Thursday evening from his United Kingdom base and commenced training under the guidance of the team's captain, coach David Churcher at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in Accra on Friday.

Gunther, the first to arrive among the four players invited for the duel billed between March 4-6 told the GNA Sports, "Its good to be back and I hope to acclimatize soon". It's only a week to the competition and I believe acclimatization is my priority now". The former top seed said he was poised for the competition that takes the winner to the Euro-African Zone One category.

"The weather is the only obstacle at the moment. It's been snowing so much out there that coping out here is almost a near impossibility", he told GNA Sports.

He remained cautiously optimistic about the team's chances, though, he expressed the conviction that over-powering the visitors would not be beyond the capabilities of the Ghanaians.

The three others, top seed Henry Adjei-Darko, Daniel Omaboe and teenage sensation, Salifu Mohammed are expected to arrive in due course. Whilst Omaboe and Mohammed are expected to report from their United States base by the week-end, the arrival of "the serve and volley" Adjei-Darko, currently participating in a "Future" tournament in Switzerland have been tied to his progress in the competition which ends at the weekend.

The Finnish are expected to arrive on Sunday, March 27 for acclimatization.
