Renowned Dutch commentator Emile Haddock believes Netherlands head coach Guus Hiddink has made an extremely bad choice by overlooking Dutch-born Ghanaian attacker Elvis Manu in his squad for October’s Euro qualifiers next weekend.

Instead the 21-year-old Feyenoord star has been called up by the Jong Oranje who play an European Championship play-off match against Portugal.

“Manu is playing well and obviously better than Quincy Promes at Spartak Moscow and should have been in the squad,” he said.

Hiddink was on attendance at the Stadion Feijenoord to watch Manu on Thursday night in the Uefa Europa League as the attacker scored the winner against Standard Liege.

Manu’s string of missed opportunities in the game might have influenced Hiddink’s decision to leave him out of his 25-man squad for their Euro qualifiers games against Kazakhstan and Iceland.

Despite playing actively for the Jong Oranje (U23), Manu has declared his intentions of playing for Ghana and it is unclear whether he could have responded to a call-up from Hiddink which could have blocked his chance of playing for Ghana.

Manu’s influential performance this season has seen him assisted eight goals in all competitions and scoring twice in the Uefa Europa League – his goals coming against FC Zorya and Standard Liege.
