Gyan: I’ll love to see Muntari back

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan says he will be happy to “welcome” suspended Ittihad FC midfielder Sulley Muntari back to the national team.

Muntari, 31, has been out of the Black Stars fold following an indefinite suspension imposed on him at the 2014 Fifa World Cup for an unprovoked physical attack on a management committee member during a row over player appearance fees.

Together with Kevin-Prince Boateng, who had a spat with coach Kwesi Appiah, the Konongo-born was sent home on the day of Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Portugal in the last group game, and that remains the last seen of him on national duty.

“We all know Sulley and what he brings to this team,” Gyan said.

“His quality is immense and I will be very glad to welcome him back.

“He has scored very important goals for our country and so yes, we need him.

“But I am not the coach and so can’t determine when he will earn a recall.

“If the coach decides to recall him, we’ll be happy to have him back. But those kinds of decisions are really not part of my job.”

The Ghana FA has insisted that only on official apology could see Muntari have any chance of a getting a recall. However, the midfielder is as yet to satisfy the requirement.
