Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan expects a huge turnout for their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mauritius at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The Black Stars secured a narrow 1-0 win over neighbours Togo in an international friendly on Monday with Portugal-based midfielder Bernard Mensah scoring on his debut for the team.
Coach Avram Grant’s side will be playing at the Accra Sports Stadium for the first time in over two years, with fears the encounter could record a low turnout.
However, Gyan, who is hoping to lead the team to another Afcon finals, is confident the stadium will be filled to capacity.
“We have not played in Accra for a very long time and if my memory serves me right is been more than two years since we last played here,” Gyan said, speaking to reporters.
“It is a policy implemented by the officials to rotate all our home games across the country, in the past two years, we have played in Kumasi and Tamale and if we are coming to Accra I think it is in the right direction.
“For us as players we are comfortable with any venue the authorities tell us to play. This is Ghana and we know we have the support of our people so I expect to see the fans come in their numbers on Sunday.”
Ghana are in Group H with Rwanda, Mauritius and Madagascar.
