Gyan grovels for Black Stars flop

Captain Asamoah Gyan has once more issued a groveling apology on behalf of the Black Stars to the Ghanaian fans and is asking them to return their overwhelming support to the team.

The Black Stars have been struggling to secure results since their early and disappointing exit from the 2014 World Cup.

Most of the Black Stars suffering has been attributed to the lack of the overwhelming support they used to enjoy from the Ghanaian fans who remain bitterly hurt by the manner in which the team crashed out of the World Cup in Brazil.

The Ghana camp in Brazil was saddled with problems of player agitation over delayed payment of appearance fees.

Some other players also engaged in acts of indiscipline – leading to their dismissal from camp.

The Ghanaian fans felt the players put their ‘selfish’ interest ahead of sacrificing to qualify the nation beyond the group stage in the finals staged in Brazil.

They consequently showed their fury by booing the team in their first 2015 AFCON qualifier against Uganda last month in Kumasi and are feeling reluctant in returning the support.

But captain Asamoah Gyan has begged the fans to put behind the horrible experience and assured it will never happen again.

“We have felt the brunt of the fans and again I want to say we are very sorry for what happened in Brazil,” the Al Ain hitman said.

“I can assure you it will never happen again. Not in this our lifetime.

“But then we need our fans back. We are nothing without them.

“We are in the midst of another qualifying campaign and if all of us don’t join hands again to qualify the nation to the African Cup then who loses?

“It is our nation that loses but we don’t want that. We want to do everything possible to regain the love of our fans but we cannot do without them.

“The prayers, blessings and all other support from the fans is greatly needed by the team. So we urge the fans to please come back on board to support us.”

Gyan will lead the Black Stars in their next 2015 AFCON qualifier against Guinea on Wednesday in Tamale.
