Ghana skipper Asamoah Gyan has not rescinded his decision to retire from international football following a captaincy misunderstanding, can reveal.

The Ghana skipper is reported to have eaten back his words after angrily calling it quits on the national team after Coach Kwasi Appiah opted to hand the armband to another player.

“Upon consultation with my family and team, and as an active footballer and captain of the national team, if the decision of the coach is to give captaincy of the tournament to another player while I am named in the team for the tournament, I wish to rescue myself from the tournament,” Gyan said in his statement.

The decision has shaken the core foundation of the Black Stars forcing a stakeholder meeting involving the Sports Ministry, the Presidency, the Normalization Committee, the Management Committee of the Black Stars and Coach Kwasi Appiah.

Coach Appiah is believed to have convinced all the stakeholders, standing solidly by his decision.

But the President of Ghana Akufo-Addo ordered Asamoah Gyan to rescind his decision and make a return into the national team.

Reports were swiftly afloat that the striker has rescinded his decision to stage a return into the team and will accept the role of General Captain while another player is named the substantive captain.

But a high ranking team member of Asamoah Gyan has revealed to that such decision has not been taken.

According to him, the Asamoah Gyan team and family have not met to take a decision following the President’s position.

He added that, the team and the family will meet on Wednesday to iron out a few matters and come out publicly to announce their decision.

Gyan is the most capped Ghanaian player with 106 games as well as the all time top scorer with 51 goals.
