Gyan is a good captain, says Kwesi Appiah

Asamoah Gyan is a good captain and the man with the most charisma to lead the Ghana Black Stars, according to helmsman Kwesi Appiah. In the absence of substantive skipper, John Mensah as well as deputy Michael Essien, Al Ain forward Gyan took over the mantle as the most senior player in the first leg of the 2013 Nations’ Cup final round qualifier against Malawi in Accra.

So impressive was Gyan in the leading role, that even after the return of hitherto third in line for the Ghana captainship, John Paintsil for the return encounter in Lilongwe, Coach Appiah did not have any illusions whatsoever, who was the right candidate for the job.

“Asamoah Gyan is very good for the team as the captain because he always makes everybody happy and brings everyone together. After training, he gathers them to sing and he brings his own music. He also performs as a striker and is very important for us on the pitch,” Coach Kwesi Appiah told Supersports’ Soccer Africa programme on DSTV.

Equally proud of the mantle bestowed on him is Gyan himself who is not running away from responsibility:

“I feel great but I don’t feel any difference at all because the players are still the same to me, like my brothers. They supported me whilst I was away and I think now I’m back for good,” Gyan said.
