Boxer Emmanuel ‘Gameboy’ Tagoe has exclusively told Sportscrusader.com that the advice he received from his promoter Asamoah Gyan during his fight with Tanzanian Sadiki Momba helped him to emerge victorious.
Emmanuel Tagoe secured a knockout win over Sidiki Momba in the WBA Intercontinental Lightweight contest during the early hours of 27th December 2014 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The ‘Game Boy’ forced his Tanzanian opponent to succumb to defeat after picking up an arm injury midway through Round 6 of the boxing bout staged by Asamoah Gyan’s Baby Jet Promotions.
But in an interview with sportscrusader.com, the ‘Gameboy’ revealed that it was actually an advice from the Black Stars captain that did the trick before the knockout.”
“I wasn’t in the mood to lose the fight, and I made that known to my opponent right from the first round. And to prove my determination, I did not sit on the stool that was provided for me during the break of every round.”
I did that for all the rounds until that fateful 6th round. As soon as the bell rang after the 5th round I heard Asamoah Gyan telling me at ringside that he is not happy with what I was doing and that I should sit down on the stool and stop ‘flexing”, ‘Gameboy’ mentioned in an interview with sportscrusader.com.
“He was very strict and I had no choice than to adhere to it, and thankfully after resting on the stool after the 5th round, I managed to go into the 6th round full of renewed strength and that to me helped me to beat Momba”, he explained.
Tagoe had dominated the fight until the decisive moment in Round 6, but Momba was not completely overawed. The Tanzanian put up a spirited fight to excite the crowd at the Lawn Tennis Court of the Accra Sports Stadium, which included a host of the Black Stars players.
