The Ghana skipper played no part as his club pipped Suwon Bluewings 2-1 on Wednesday
Ghana and Shanghai SIPG striker Asamoah Gyan was absent when his Chinese club defeated Suwon Bluewings 2-1 in a Group G game of 2015/16 AFC Champions League on Wednesday at the Shanghai Stadium.
The 30-year-old lasted 60 minutes a week ago and was replaced with Lu Wenjun when Shanghai suffered a 2-1 defeat to Australian club Melbourne Victory. Although, the injury did not appear serious initially, he was taken off as a precautionary measure and failed to pass a late fitness test on Wednesday.
However, in Gyan's absence, goals from Elkeson de Oliveira Cardoso and Wu Lei on 32nd and 52nd minute respectively were enough to win all the points despite a late consolation from Hyun-Soo Jang.
Shanghai are currently second on Group G log with three points, one point behind Melbourne.
Goal understands that Gyan will undergo further scan on Friday but Ghana coach Avram Grant will be hoping his skipper returns soon ahead of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Mozambique on March 22.
