Ghana recovered in time after their shocking 2-1 defeat against Senegal in the opening Group C encounter to pip Algeria by a lone goal courtesy all-time goalscorer Asamoah Gyan.

The west African giants left it late but boosted their chances of going past the group phase in additional time when the 29-year-old latched onto a long pass by Celtic midfielder Wakaso Mubarak, and controlled it perfectly before smashing past goalkeeper Rais M'Bohli.

Algeria after winning their first game against South Africa needed a win to automatically qualify to the quarter finals of the competition but following the defeat, they will have to re-gather momentum to record a win against Senegal on Tuesday.

FC Copenhagen defender Daniel Amartey received the Fair Play award in succession after clinching it on his debut against Senegal.
