In a bid to foster unity and community spirit, Hon. Hajia Nasira Afrah, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Sekyere Afram Plains constituency, organized a vibrant football gala that brought together youth and residents alike.

The event was graced by distinguished personalities including Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, MP for Tamale South, and Hon. Mavis Kukua Bissue, PC for Ahanta West - NDC, along with the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC and Mr. Samson Deen, President of the African Paralympic Committee.

Hon. Hajia Nasira Afrah used the occasion not only to promote unity but also to commend the youth for their peaceful participation in the recent electoral registration exercise.

She emphasized the importance of unity in achieving development and prosperity within the community.

Special guest Hon. Haruna Iddrisu imparted valuable advice to the youth, encouraging them to pursue both football and education for a brighter future. Citing the success story of Abdul Fatawu Issahaku of Leicester City FC, he highlighted the potential for excellence in both fields.

The day’s football matches were fiercely contested, with Dagomba facing Hamidu in an opening match that saw Hamidu emerge victorious with a 1-0 scoreline. The tournament featured eight teams: Dagomba, Anyinofi, Drobonso, Fumsua, Hamidu, Dawia, Issahkrom, and Seneso.

In a thrilling final, Drobonso clinched victory over Hamidu in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw in regular time. The decisive moment saw the son of former President Sharaf Mahama join Hon. Hajia Nasira Afrah for the kickoff and awards ceremony.

Drobonso won the trophy while the Best Player award went to Seth Adomako (Essien). Owusu Boateng Godfred picked up the Best Goalkeeper award and the Goal King went to Abdul Razak Yahaya.



The tournament’s winners received significant recognition, with Drobonso awarded GHS 10,000 for their triumph. Hamidu secured the second position with GHS 6,000, while Fumsua and Issahkrom claimed third and fourth places respectively, with GHS 3,000 and GHS 1,000.



Hon. Hajia Nasira Afrah congratulated Drobonso for their outstanding performance, highlighting the event as a testament to the power of sports in fostering unity and achieving communal goals.

The football gala not only showcased spirited sportsmanship but also underscored the importance of community engagement and solidarity, resonating deeply with all participants and spectators alike.
