Footy-ghana.com understands that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is leaning towards awarding Ghana the hosting rights for the 2017 African Nations Cup.

Sources close to the CAF hierarchy have told footy-ghana.com that Ghana’s performance in hosting that 2008 African Nations Cup, in addition to a strong case launched by CAF Executive Committee member and Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi for Ghana to host the showpiece, has convinced CAF Chiefs to select Ghana ahead of Algeria and Gabon to host the 2017 AFCON.

CAF will officially announce the hosts for the competition on April 8 2015.

Ghana first hosted the competition in 1963, before repeating the feat 15 years later.

Ghana later co hosted the AFCON with Nigeria in 2000 before hosting the tournament in 2008.
