Germany-based Ghanaian defender Hans Adu Sarpei has been ruled out of action for two weeks because of a muscle tear.

The in-form Bayer Leverkusen ace was due to play in his side's final league game against Werder Bremen on Saturday.

But Friday's injury means Sarpei will not play in the crucial league match that might decide whether they will play Uefa Cup next season.

He will also miss Black Stars friendly against Australia in Sydney next week becasue of the injury.

Sarpei, who suffered the injury during training, says he is keen to return to action before the start of the World Cup qualifiers on 1 June.

"Now I am out of Saturday's game against Bremen but I don't want to miss the World Cup qualifiers because it is important for my country," Sarpei told Ghanasoccernet.

"I will go for more tests on Saturday so that the doctors can work on me quickly to return to action for Ghana."

Sarpei is key player in Ghana's defence and he is expected to be part of the starting team in the Black Stars World Cup qualifiers.

He missed the Black Stars friendly against Mexico in March because of a stiff neck. ghanasoccernet
