5,000 CONVERGE FOR HAPPY FM GAMES

Happy FM has pulled off another successful event with its fourth Keep Fit Festival

over the weekend at the El-Wak Sports Stadium bringing together several keep fit

clubs, top sports personalities, musicians, amateurs and sports enthusiasts to

compete and have fun through games.

Attracting thousands of participants across the country, the annual event kicked

off on Saturday, October 16, and lasted between 6am and 6:30pm amid great

excitement.

The festival of games saw participants competing in several interesting sporting

activities including soccer, basketball, athletics, bendball, volleyball,

tug-of-war, lime and spoon, draughts, scrabble, ludo, jama competition, skipping,

oware, sack race, ampe, among others.

This year’s event, having grown into a festival has been acclaimed as one of the

most successful since the inception of the Happy FM Keep Fit Games four years ago.

Opening the Games at El-Wak Stadium, retired football icon Marcel Desailly commended

Happy FM for the initiative and urged management of Happy FM to continue with the

event because there was the potential of the games to grow into the caliber of the

Commonwealth or even the Olympic Games.

Head of GMABC Events, Mr. Charles Osei Asibey said, “"The most important people in

these Games are the participants – athletes, players, singers and of course the

sponsors as well as the audience and cheerleaders. They must be happy. If at the end

of the Games the people are happy, our work is well done. The Happy FM Keep Fit

Festival was well done and a huge success".

After a successful event, prizes were awarded to winners in the various categories

of games. Guest of Honour, Deputy Sports Minister, Nii Nortey Duah and Ghana’s

screen god, Jon Dumelo presented the awards including certificates, trophies,

products from sponsors and cash prizes. Among the award winning keep fit clubs were,

El-Wak, West Side, Mepe, Battor, Rangoon, Dodowa, Planosim, Pig Farm, Doryumu, Sege

United, Gonazo, and many others.

Emelia Amedewe of Battor Keep Fit Club who emerged the overall winner of the Lime &

Spoon race said “We are so happy to be here again for this year’s games. The Happy

FM keep Fit Games continues to grow bigger and better each year. We cannot wait for

the next season, which we hope will come sooner than later. Ayekoo to Happy FM and

all sponsors”.

"This is one of the platforms through which we bond with our listeners and the

community. We are glad to bring so many people together through one common

denominator – sports. Not only do we have fun, but we are also promoting healthy

living and lifestyle through these games. Looking at the trend and the growing

interest in the event, Happy FM Keep Fit Festival may become more regular in the

future" hinted Station Manager Bismark Brown.

Music also captured the atmosphere at El-Wak with jama songs blazing in the air and

live performances from artistes including Bandana, Akoo Nana and other up-coming

artistes.

Its flagship programme, Happy Sport was recently awarded the Radio Programme of the

Year 2009 at the CIMG Awards. Happy FM is increasing its outdoor programmes in order

to reach out and interact more often with its teeming listeners.
