People from all walks of life on Friday March 6 thronged the Ashaley Botwe Park in Accra to participate in the fifth edition of the Lakeside Marina/Happy FM Family Fun Run.

It is an annual family event aimed at encouraging healthy living among Ghanaians, the organizers disclosed.

Amidst pomp and pageantry, participants walked from the Lakeside Marina Park through to other surrounding areas and ended at the same venue.

At the end of the walk, six participants were rewarded in various categories, including the fastest man, woman, and child aged 12 and below, teenager, fastest 50 plus year-old, fastest family, Chief Executive Officer and the fastest school.

A representative from the Mercy Orphanage Foundation was awarded the fastest teenager, Executive Director of the Lakeside Estate, Mr. Salah Kalmoni romped home with the fastest CEO award while Mr. William Combat, 72, took away the fastest man award. The fastest family award was handed to the Boateng Family.

In a brief remark, the General Manager of Happy FM, Emmanuel Akruma, said “Due to the nature of our jobs and the work load that comes with it, most workers are unable to make time to undertake regular exercises with the aim of keeping fit.

“These days, it is common to see many young people suffering from ailments like stroke, diabetes and hypertension among others. We can curtail these conditions with regular exercise and the Family Fun Run presents a perfect opportunity for all individuals to have fun with their families while walking and running”.

On his part, Mr Salah Kweku Kalmoni, Director of Lakeside Estates, said the event was to celebrate family, good health and the Independence Day.

He, therefore, urged the participants to continue engage in exercises in order to be strong and healthy.

Other activities that that took place were health screening, aerobics and exercising.
