Ghanaian politician Haruna Iddrisu’s club, Steadfast FC, will receive 7.9 million euros following Abdul Fatawu Issahaku’s permanent transfer to Leicester City.

The Foxes have activated the €17 million (14 million pounds) clause for the winger, who played 60% of games as they gained promotion.

Since Sporting Lisbon purchased Issahaku in 2022 for 1.2 million euros, the value gained on the transfer will be 15.8 million euros (after deducting their 1.2 million euros from the 17 million euros), which will be shared by Steadfast and the Portuguese club.

Fatawu, who adds plenty to the attack, registered seven goals and 13 assists last season.

He improved as the campaign progressed and delivered the best individual display of City’s title glory when he scored a hat-trick in a 5-0 demolition of Southampton.

Born in the Ghanaian city of Tamale, Fatawu began his senior career with Steadfast FC, where his impressive performances earned him a loan move to Ghanaian Premier Division side Dreams FC in October 2021.

The talented winger, considered one of Ghana’s most exciting prospects, continued his fine form before transferring to Sporting Lisbon in April 2022.

He made his senior debut for the Portuguese side against Rio Ave in August 2022 and participated in their UEFA Champions League campaign that season.

Fatawu enjoyed international success in March 2021 when he helped Ghana’s Under-20 team win the Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations, where he was named player of the tournament.

At the senior level, he has represented his country 19 times, featuring in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and more recently in the Africa Cup of Nations.

He will reunite with his Leicester City teammates as they prepare for the Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday, August 19, 2024.
