The former Berekum Chelsea attacker has been in fine form in the last one month bagging three goals in three notable friendly games.
Obed Owusu is the type of player that totally divides opinion. Half of Kotoko supporters has always wanted his out for his lack of goals and assists as a forward but the other group has shown him unconditional support since he arrived in Kumasi three years ago.
Owusu, blessed with golden health and physique, has been much maligned by some Kotoko supporters for his lack of attacking firepower in the past few seasons but the forward is currently transforming into the sort of player majority so much desire of him.
He scored Kotoko’s goal in Tanzania in the anniversary match against Simba SC in August and followed that with a brilliant goal against Hearts of Oak on September 2 as Asante Kotoko recorded a second successive victory over the Phobians in Kumasi.
Obed Owusu continued to silence his critics with another strike against Ashantigold on Sunday but it was not enough to prevent his side from losing 3-2 to the Miners.
Following the departure of strikers like Sadick Adams and Yakubu Mohammed, Obed is in competition with Frederick Boateng to form an attacking partnership with Songne Yacouba and at the moment Obed has the nod with his 3 goals in the last month..
This is Obed’s 4th season at Kotoko after joining from Berekum Chelsea in 2015 and the bigger challenge is to maintain and carry this hot form into competitive season.
