Headmaster advices athletes to be disciplined

Hayford Appiah has advised the athletes participating at the

School's on-going Inter-Houses games to exhibit discipline to

ensure the success of the competition. Mr Appiah said the exhibition of good conduct by the students

would enable the School to pick talented athletes, footballers and

for other disciplines to represent the School in the forthcoming

Inter-zonal games in the Sunyani Municipality. The Headmaster who was recently transferred from Tuobodom

Senior High School in the Techiman Municipality gave the advice

at the opening of the five-day competition on Monday. He reminded the participating athletes that sporting

competitions were not only meant for gaining laurels but were also

meant for hearty co-existence and mutual understanding amongst

the participants. Mr Appiah advised the house Masters, athletes as well as the

spectators to abide by the rules and regulations of the games and

comport themselves and not to take the law in their hands to

ensure a successful competition. The athletes would compete in soccer, volleyball, table tennis,

handball and athletics. In the athletic programme, nine final events in both the boys'

and girls' divisions were held on the first day of the competition. They included the boys' 800 metres, which was won by

Master Kassim Issaka of House Three in a time of 2:17.90

seconds, followed by Master Victor Yeboah of House Six in a

time of 2:18.26 seconds and Master Hubert Nketiah of House

Four placing third in a time of 2: 18.28 seconds. In the girls' 800 metre race, Ms Patricia Ataa Yeboah of

House One breasted the tape in a time of 3: 45 seconds to take the

first position, followed closely by Ms Sophia Asante of House Six

in a time of 3: 46 seconds and Ms Gifty Bale of House Four

placing third with a time of 3: 51 seconds. In the Girls' 4x100 metre event, Ms Patricia Appiah of House

Five led her quartered to win the race with a time of 1: 03.47

seconds followed by Ms Lacimatu Issah and co. of House Two

with a time of 1:04.70 seconds and Ms Sophia Asante of House

Six and co. placing third with a time of 1: 05.54 seconds. In the field events, Master Kassim Issaka of House Three who

had earlier won the 800 metres track race put up a splendid

performance in the high jump with a jump of 1.68 metres to lead

the 12 competitors of two each from the six Houses. Master George Osei Amo of House Five placed second with a

jump of 1.60 metres. Master Richard Kyeremeh of House Four placed third with a

height of 1.52 metres. In the Boys' discus throw, Master Bismark Boabeng of House

Three threw a distance of 29.31 metres to win the first position,

followed by Master Richard Agongo with a distance of 27.33

metres and Master Daniel Mensah of House One with a throw of

21.68 metres. In the Girls' division Ms Patricia Appiah of House Five won

the high jump event when she scaled a height of 1.32 metres,

followed by Ms Felicity Braimah of House Three with a jump of

1.24 metres while Ms Lacimatu Issah of House Two placed third

with a jump of 1.24 metres. In the girls discuss, Ms Deborah Lamptey of House Three

threw a distance of 15.51 metres to take the first position followed

by Ms Regina Owusu of House One with a throw of 19.27 metres

and Ms Gifty Nimo of House Three placed third with 18.55

metres. The Festival continues on Tuesday, January 25 with final

events in 100 metres (boys and girls), 400 metres (boys and girls),

3000 metres (boys and girls), 200 metres (boys and girls), 5,000

metres (boys) and 4x400 metres (boys and girls). Present at the opening ceremony included representatives of

Sunyani-based Mackenzie Sports Wear Company, Actual View

Enterprise and Expresso.
