'Heads must roll' after Commonwealth Games failure – NSA boss

Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has called for decisive action following Ghana's disappointing performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, insisting that officials across the country's sports administration must be held accountable.

Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM after Team Ghana's campaign, Ampofo Ankrah admitted that the lack of coordination among the NSA, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, and the Ghana Olympic Committee contributed to the country's underwhelming showing.

According to him, the country's sports leadership failed to work together to adequately prepare for the Games, with each institution operating independently instead of pursuing a common strategy.

"I think we're all to blame. If the President says you're all fired, I think he'll be right," he said, adding that those responsible should not shy away from accepting the consequences of poor performance.

The NSA Director General stressed that Ghana must adopt the culture of accountability seen in other countries, where coaches and sports administrators resign or are replaced after failing to achieve expected results.

He urged stakeholders to bring together experienced professionals from across the sports sector to develop a coordinated long-term strategy capable of improving Ghana's fortunes at major international competitions.

Ampofo Ankrah warned that unless urgent reforms are implemented, Ghana risks repeating the same mistakes at the next Commonwealth Games in India, insisting that every institution, including the NSA, the Sports Ministry and the Ghana Olympic Committee, must be prepared to take responsibility for the country's shortcomings.
