The Ministry of Youth and Sports has lined up a health education and safety seminar to climax the 12th anniversary of the May 9 Stadium Disaster.
The event will take place on Thursday, May 9, at the Media Centre of the Accra Sports Stadium to educate the public on preventive measures against the occurrence of similar unfortunate incidents.
A statement signed by Michael Frimpong, Public Relations of the Ministry copied to GNA Sports said the seminar will be preceded by a Commemorative Health Walk that will feature supporters groups, followers of both Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.
The walk will take off at 06h00 from the Kwame Nkrumah Circle (Obra Spot) through some principal streets in the capital before ending at the forecourt of the national stadium.
After the walk, there will be wreath laying at the monument at the forecourt by officials of the Ministry, representatives of Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, as well as members of the bereaved families on behalf of the departed persons.
In 2001, 126 fans died following a stampede during a league match between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium.
