Some fans of Hearts of Oak after their slim 1-0 win over Berekum Chelsea, attacked sports journalist, Samuel Boakye-Buckman to the surprise of onlookers.
Samuel, who has made a name for himself through sports photo journalism, and is active on social media, predominantly Facebook, was attacked as he made his way to the post-match presser.
Sportscrusader.com sources hints that, a misconstrued ‘harmless’ comment he posted on Facebook after Hearts’ 1-0 win away to Hasaacas on match week 19, was what irked the hooligans who attacked him.
Another source further intimates that, the attack was a ‘follow-up’ to a verbal assault the journo had earlier suffered from one of Hearts’ top officials via phone, who apparently, had also been misinformed on the contents of Samuel’s Facebook post.
Boakye-Buckman, famously known within local media circles as “Dada Oliseh”, posted the comments; “I don’t care [about Hearts victory over Hasaacas]”
“I have indefinitely suspended my support for the club [Hearts] until they defeat arch rivals, Kumasi Asante Kotoko when they meet on Sunday” on a Facebook post he had been tagged in.
The latter of the two comments might have been the one that unfortunately incurred the wrath of those involved.
However, Oliseh, highly motivated by the passion for journalism, though suffering a sprained wrist from the attack, has since returned to work.
There has been a loud cry for all and sundry to eschew hooliganism in all its forms, so that Ghana sports – for that matter, football – can develop.
Samuel’s and the several other isolated instances of hooliganism defeats the purpose of that clarion call, consequently stagnating the development of domestic football.
