Hearts suffer yet another defeat -JoyFM

Dansoman-based Liberty professionals played a spirited second half game and banged in three goals within a spell of 10 minutes to beat uncrowned league champions, Hearts of Oak 3-2 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Hearts were on the verge of winning the match, holding unto a 15th and 50th minute strikes by Ishmael Addo and Charles Taylor until Baffour Gyan's 74th minute goal opened the floodgates for yet another two in the 82nd and 84th minutes. The Phobians unsettled their opponents from kick off and in the first minute, skipper Jacob Nettey delivered a powerful drive, which saw goalkeeper Addo sprawling to push the ball to corner. And from then on, Hearts never looked back, they pinned their eerie Liberty opponents to their own half with incessant attack.

The raids paid off in the 15th minute when "goal thief" Ishmael Addo broke loose with a 15-metre sprint, overpowering his two markers, Wahib Mohammed and Edmund Odamtten before sending a curling shot over onrushing goalkeeper Addo into the net. Taylor added another after the break when he sneaked through Liberty defence from Dan Quaye's pass to hit the far right corner of the net in the 50th minute.

But just after that goal, Liberty stepped up their game, pushing more men forward but they had to wait till the 74th minute. Baffour who had been anonymous in the game pulled one back with a header from a corner but had to give way to Albert Batsa a minute after he had scored. Just as Liberty seemed to have gained control, disaster hit Hearts when their dependable defender Amankwa Mireku was sent off for kicking Ablade Morgan in the groin. Batsa finished off from that freekick in the 82nd minute while David Boateng added the third with a long drive in the 84th minute.

Sekondi Hasaacas drew 0 - 0 with Dawu Youngsters in their ABC premier league match played at the Cape Coast Sport Stadium. In a match which, was played at a very fast pace, Dawu dominated play and created many scoring chances but over elaboration and poor marksmanship robbed them of victory. In the second half both teams made some changes in a bid to break the deadlock, but that could not change the pattern of play till full time.

A 67th minute goal scored by midfielder Kenneth Ababio of Obuasi Goldfields gave his side a lone goal victory over B.A.United in their ABC premier league match played at the Sunyani Coranation Park. The Miners scored their goal through a free-kick, expertly taken by Ababio which sailed into the net leaving goalkeeper Sampson Tetteh stranded. The free-kick was as a result of a violent charge on Yaw Owusu by United's skipper Alhaji Abass was given by Accra based FIFA referee Joseph Wellington.

In Kumasi, Real Tamale United (RTU) settled for a 1-1 draw with Bofoakwa Tano in their match played at the Kumasi sports stadium. Bofoakwa was first to score in the 23rd minute through enterprising Kofi Asiedu when he headed home in a goalmouth melee after a defender of the RTU has failed to head it away. Hamza Mohammed of RTU equalised in the 47th minute with a powerful shot which hit the post and dropped into the net.

Kumasi King Faisal defied the home support of Dwarfs to draw nil-nil with them in their ABC premier league match played at the Cape Coast sports stadium. Dwarfs who are close to the relegation zone the match with great determination and nearly went ahead in the fifth and fifteen minutes but centre forward Mathew Attiogbe's two shots missed the post by inches. Dwarfs continued to dictate the pace of the game but all their attempts to score yielded no dividends till half time.

Long suffering supporters of relegation threatened Accra Great Olympic heaved a great sigh of relief after their darling club beat Tema Ghapoha 2-0 in their match played at the Accra sports stadium. The match which was crucial to Olympics' stay in the premier division started with the home team dominating the early exchanges but failed to find the morale boosting early goal they needed. Olympics raided the Gapoha's area for a considerable time but lack of punch in their attacked robbed them of several chances with Aziz Ansah as the worst offender as he wasted three goal scoring opportunities in the 14th, 15th and 20th minute when he was put through. Olympics after dominating nearly found themselves behind as their goalkeeper John Sharpe wrongly kicked a back pass to him to an opponent but Nii Noi Dowona came to his rescue to scope the ball from the goal line in the 29th minute.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko banned from its home grounds beat Kwaebibirm stars by a lone goal in their ABC Premier league played at the Tema sports stadium. Kotoko's Lawrence Adjei tapped a brilliant cross from Shilla Alhassan in the 86th minute, which beat Goalkeeper Theodore Atsu to bring a sigh of relief to the Kotoko Coach. Kotoko dominated the match throughout out the first 70 minutes but failed to find the net after it wasted several corner-kicks gained through the pressure mounted on Kwaebibirim Stars.

Relegation threatened Koforidua-based Power F/C managed a convincing 1-0 win over Okwawu United in their match at the Nkawkaw park. The lone goal was scored by substitute James Armaquaye in the 50th minute when his beautiful shot in the penalty area beat Okwawu's goalkeeper Amadu Issaka. The two teams started the game on a soggy pitch after a 30-minute downpour, which made ball control very difficult. However it was Power who took advantage of it to dominate play.
