Former Accra Hearts of Oak captain Amankwah Mireku has revealed how he deliberately injured Asante Kotoko midfielder Stephen Oduro in a Super Clash encounter.
Mireku noted that Stephen Oduro was one of the most formidable players on the Kotoko team, capable of creating a big chance in matches.
Ahead of the clash between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League on May 26, Mireku recalled how he eliminated Oduro in a Super Clash match.
"There was this match where Oduro was playing in midfield," Mireku recalled. "But then, during this Hearts-Kotoko match in Kumasi, when we lined up, he was positioned on the left wing. I thought to myself, 'Why has the coach done this? What's happening?'"
According to Mireku, he devised a strategy, and within minutes of the game, he caused the substitution of Stephen Oduro.
"Godfred Yeboah, may his soul rest in peace, played a pass to Oduro," Mireku explained. "As I approached him, trying to control the ball, I raised my leg slightly. At that moment, I kicked Oduro's leg and the ball simultaneously. It wasn't a foul because there was contact with the ball, but Oduro couldn't continue playing. He went off within 15 minutes, and I had a good game."
Amankwah Mireku was an instrumental force during his time at Hearts of Oak. He won the CAF Champions League, CAF Confederation Cup, CAF Super Cup, six league titles, and two FA Cup trophies.
