Hearts legend Quaye leaves door open for third stint

Hearts of Oak's 2000 Caf Champions League winning star Dan Quaye says he is open to another return to the club.

The 37-year-old right-back is rated among the club's all-time best players, having, aside from the Champions League, played instrumental roles as the Phobians won the 2000 Caf Super Cup and the 2004 Caf Confederation Cup.

He is currently without a club after leaving Great Olympics last year.

“I haven’t retired. I am always training since Olympics got relegated. I can still play, even better, and I’m not bragging," Quaye told Footballmadeinghana.

“The club has to change its mind regarding us the old players.

"Their thinking is that the old players influence the decisions of the young players in the team and that is why most Ghanaian clubs hardly sign old players.

“The young players of today know what is good for them already and so I don’t think it is we the old guys that influence them."

With two previous spells, Quaye also won six league titles with the Phobians.

“I am always training and ready to help the team again. You all saw what myself, Richard Kingson and [Godwin] Attram did at Great Olympics two seasons ago," the full-back, who can also play at centre-back, added.

“People were even saying we were better than the young ones and this is what I mean. The experienced players have lot to give but unfortunately our clubs don’t see it that way."

The Accra-born, who has had stints with Chinese clubs Chongqing Lifan, Yanbian FC and Beijing Baxy, was on Ghana's standby list for the 2006 Fifa World Cup in Germany.
