Accra Hearts of Oak have admitted to owing late coach Herbert Addo some money.

Speaking to Class Sports, the Communications Director of the club, Kwame Opare Addo, said the Accra-based side had agreed on a payment plan with Coach Herbert Addo which they hoped to honour before his demise.

He, however, rejected claims that the club owed the late coach an amount of GHS20,000 and claimed the amount is no more than GHS3000

“The money is just less than GHS3000, at least not more than GHS3000,” he stated. Responding to claims the club owed the deceased coach to the tune of GHS20,000, Mr Addo said: “Don’t believe whatever you hear, I will not sit on radio and speculate what is not the truth. We had a payment plan with him; you can call his manager and he will also confirm it to you. Why will I sit on radio, a public place, and say I owe somebody GHS1 when I know in my mind that I owe GHS20?”

But veteran Ghanaian coach and close friend of Herbert Addo’s, J.E Sarpong, countered the claims of Hearts’ Communications Director and said the amount was in excess of GHS30,000.

“He (Herbert Addo) told me some months back that they owed him and that Inter Allies also owed him at least GHS70 something thousand. He said they paid him part and it was left with GHS50,000 or so, and then he said he was even going to instruct his lawyers to write to them to collect the money for him… He wanted money to care for himself then. After he has died you say you are going to pay him? Sometimes I get peeved and I talk and people say the man is blasting, he is talking, he’s shouting, he’s insulting people, but I’m not insulting anybody, facts are facts,” he stated.

Coach Herbert Addo died on Friday 24 March after a short illness.
