Veteran keeper Benjamin Mensah speaking to Hearts Media the club's internal media outlet revealed that he is happy to serve as a source of inspiration to his younger colleagues at Accra Hearts of Oak and believes with time, they will rise to the very top of their game.
The Accra based club has three goalkeepers; Richmond Ayi, Richard Attah, and Richard Baidoo in the first team together with Benjamin Mensah.
Mensah competing for the number one shirt has played at the highest level in the local league, some of the clubs he played for are King Faisal, Great Olympics, and New Edubiase United. He indicated that he still has a role to play at the club and will continue to teach the young keepers.
“I am happy to be contributing positively to the goalkeeping department at Accra Hearts of Oak,”
“As a senior figure in this area, I see it as my responsibility to guide the young ones as they come up, and, I am happy to see that they listen to the pieces of advice that I give out,”
“We speak on a regular basis and my relationship with all of them is very excellent and, this is in part have contributed to the good performances for the team by the goalkeepers," he added.
Hearts of Oak goalkeepers earned call ups to some national team sides before the league was suspended due to the COVID - 19 pandemic. Richard Attah had earned a call up to the senior national team, the Black Stars who were due to play Sudan in an AFCON 2021 qualifier and Richmond Ayi was also a member of the national U-23 side that failed to qualify to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
