'Hearts of Oak is ungrateful'

Legendry Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed Polo, sometimes referred to as Mohammed "Polo" and popularly known as the "Dribbling Magician", a former Ghanaian international football player and former coach of Accra Hearts of Oak has said Hearts of Oaks challenge in the Capital One premiere League now is as a result of silly decision been taken by the team.

The left winger and arguably the most technically gifted player ever to emerge from Ghana who appeared as a guest on "Agudiemusem" on ATV said the team's management are ungrateful and have no vision for the team.

"The team Hearts of Oak now has no vision. Their struggle in the league is no hard luck or anything spiritual. They are being ungrateful and making silly decisions" the former coach stated when Obiba Ayim Poakwa asked for his views on the current Accra Hearts of Oak team that is lying deep on the relegation zone on the league table.

Polo who was in charge of Accra Hearts of Oak last season enjoyed a torrid time at his boyhood club despite finishing third expressed worry over his job been given to a new coach who now is taking the team to relegation.

The dribbling magician who was in the Ghana squad that won the 1978 African Cup of Nations held in Ghana also said he is a talent development coach, and can build a team of new youngsters in the Ghana Under-20 team when given the opportunity.

Touching on the national team he said the boys are lucky to be playing world cup and enjoying the business aspect of modern football.

According to him, there was no money in playing and certain opportunities where hard to come by in his time. "If I was to be playing today most of the boys won't have had a playing time they're enjoying now" he said smiling.

Polo played youth football with Auroras in Accra before signing for Hearts of Oak.

Along with Mama Acquah, Anas Seidu, Peter Lamptey and Robert Hammond, they were known as the “Fearsome Five” and formed the backbone of the team.

He was invited into the Black Stars at the age of 17 years.

He also once played for Great Olympics football club, also in Accra.

Mohammad Polo has also played in the 1980s for the famous Dubai Club, Al Wasl where the fans bonded with him and his skills instantly, and still remember the magic 20 years after his departure.
