Accra, Jan. 19, GNA - Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club has paid glowing tribute to former national star, Edward Jonah Nanabanyin Aggyey-Fynn who passed away late last year for his enormous contribution in the history of Ghana soccer.
In a tribute sent from the secretariat of the club copied to the GNA Sports, it said "any attempt to write the history of Ghana football without him would be an exercise of monumental failure as the player would fondly be remembered for his significant contribution to the development of the game in Ghana".
According to the tribute, the player known as "Kofi Gyata" for his predatory skills who played for Dwarfs and Hasaacas before joining Hearts of Oak, had his sublime skills and leadership qualities gaining more prominence when he joined the camp of the Phobians. "His contribution as a team player, pleasant disposition as a gentleman and qualitative leadership skills made him the obvious choice wherever he goes" the tribute added.
The tribute described the former player as a legend whose achievements goes beyond the boarders of the country after a Zambian footballer adopted his name Aggrey while he is reported to be having a son playing in the Zambian elite league at the moment with the name Aggrey.
Also described in his hey days as the "Master", "Professor", "Maestro", "Schemer", "Strategist" and "Osagyefo", Aggrey-Fynn is also on record to have delivered Kotoko from the hands of T.P. Englebert in the 1970 Africa clubs Championship as a coach. Aggrey-Fynn was the first captain of the senior national team, the Black Stars in 1963 that paved the way to blaze the trail of continental successes.
The former Black Stars player also captained Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs from 1953-1955, Sekondi Hasaacas in 1958 and Hearts of Oak in 1961 to its league triumph.
