Hearts roll out anniversary programme

Accra, Sept. 30, GNA - Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club has rolled out a tentative programme to mark its centenary anniversary celebrations, under the theme 93The Hearts of Oak Legacy, The Spirit that Never Dies". At a brief ceremony at the secretariat of the Club, it was announced that the centenary programme is expected to kick start by the middle of October, with a fun football match between the media team and the National Chapter Committee, (NCC) the supporter's body of the Club.

The Club will also embark on a tree planting exercise whilst arrangements would be made for airing of some of their historic matches fro= m its formation on various television stations to whip up the enthusiasm of its supporters and to round up their activities for the month. According to the Planning Committee, the Club would on Friday, November 11, hold special Moslem prayers at the Central Mosque in Abbosey Okine, Accra, after which there would be a massive float through some principal streets of the national capital amidst a massive street carnival at the Oxford Street, Osu, whilst ten selected schools from the ten regions of the country would have the opportunity to have a taste of the centenary cake.


The 2000 Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Champions League winners would on November 12 hold the centenary Dinner Dance and Awards Night under the distinguished patronage of the Vice President John Dramani Mahama at the Banquet Hall, State House, Accra at 7:00pm and attend an Interdenominational Church Service at the Accra International Conference Center, (AICC).

A Thanksgiving Service would be under the patronage of John Evans Atta Mills, President of the Republic of Ghana. Hearts would climax the celebrations with an international friendly at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, November 13, against an opponent yet to be named by the Planning Committee.


Fred Crenstil, Chief Executive Officer of the Club told GNA Sports tha= t his outfit was looking forward to a great and memorable event to mark the existence of the Club and to showcase their achievements over the years. He said the event was expected to renew the commitment of the follower= s of the Club and chart a new path for progress. Crenstil called on all supporters of the Club to show their commitment to the Club by patronizing the activities lined up for the celebrations.
