According to his agent, Idowu Ismael Israel Ewa, a deal with the 46-year-old Dutchman was agreed in principle after club CEO Mr Vincent Sowah Odotei , expressed interest in the former AFC Leopards boss.

“I spoke with the chairman of Hearts Of Oak, Odotei who showed interest in my Dutch Coach and probably we are going to finalise everything within this week, the Nigerian agent told ghanaguardian.com.

We have been in a serious discussion and he told me he will come back to me concerning the coach and will have everything finalised as soon as every other thing is sorted out.”

“The coach is available and it will be a plus to Hearts of oak to have a coach with a high knowledge of football like him, Pieter de Jongh.”

Pieter de Jongh began his playing career at NAC Breda, before moving to Sparta Rotterdam only for a serious ankle injury to force the abrupt end of his career.

The 46-year-old Dutchman,since becoming a coach, has had stints with multiple clubs in his native Holland including RKC Waalwijk, FC Dordrecht, Vitesse Delft and AZ Eredivisie, before leaving for Hungary as head of Budapest Honved’s academy.

He was in charge of Kenyan side AFC Leopards in 2014 and later joined South African Club Cape Town FC.He was, in 2016, appointed a Technical Director to the Rwandan National team.

Accra Hearts of Oak have been in the market searching for a substantive manager to replace the Japanese Kenichi Yatsuhashi who resigned from the post last year.

With the 2016/17 set to begin a week time, some soccer pundits, including club legend Amankwaah Mireku, opined that a new coach will have things tough to to turn things around for the floundering Ghana giants, considering the time.

“I will prefer coach Wellington than the incoming head coach why because teamwork is very important,and since Wellington has been with the players for sometime now,” he said.
