Accra Hearts of Oak boosted their chances of finishing as runners-up after spanking bottom-placed Wassaman United 3-0 in their Week 27 clash of the Glo Premier League on Wednesday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Goals from Mahatma Otoo, Uriah Asante and Godwin Osei Bonsu ensured Hearts cruised to the eleventh win of the 27-week old premiership.

Hearts however were an ordinary side but made certain of the maximum points as they were too much for struggling Wassaman United side who finished the game with a man-less after midfielder Abdul Bashiru was given the marching off orders for a dangerous challenge on Hearts right back Abdul Ganiyu.

The Phobians got off to a bright footing with several chances falling to Otoo, but the striker blasted wide on three occasions in the opening minutes of the game.

Otoo however made amends on 27 minutes by placing the ball beyond Wassaman goalie Stephen Ahorlu after he was put through by Moro Abubakar.

Nine minutes from recess, the visitors were dealt a numerical blow after Bashiru, a former player of the Phobians was shown the marching off orders for a reckless challenge on Ganiyu.

On 72 minutes, Asante finished off a three-man move with Ollenu Ashitey and Otoo as the actors with a shot that deflected off the foot of Yusif Mutawakil, past keeper Ahorlu for the second goal.

Ollenu was a thorn in the flesh of the Wassaman defence and earned a penalty for the Phobians eight minutes from time after keeper Ahorlu fouled him in the penalty area.

The resultant penalty kick was converted by Bonsu for his first goal of the season and seal a convincing victory for the Phobians and ensure them a second spot on the log.**
