Hellas Verona coach, Ivan Juri?, could not hide his admiration for midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu after playing superbly in their 2-1 victory over Cagliari on Saturday.

Badu nearly lost his life when he suffered from a pulmonary embolism. He was struck by the illness and subsequently hospitalized for several weeks.

In March this year, his sister Hagar was shot and killed in Berekum.

The 29-year-0ld overcame his misfortunes as he played an important role in the Gialloblu home 2-1 win against Cagliari.

Coach Juri? expressed his delight for the Ghana midfielder, hailing his courage to emerge from the claws of adversity to take up the field again.

“I wanted to play more with ball to feet and the midfielders pushing up, like Emmanuel Badu and Sofyan Amrabat, so Zaccagni was more suitable for that role."

“These lads enjoy spending time together, playing football and training, so I didn’t have problems getting them working again. The only issues we had after the lockdown was in terms of fitness and injuries.

“I want to single out Badu, because he really has been through everything over the last year. He was in hospital, he lost his sister, he has been through so many things recently, but he was an absolute professional.”

Badu joined Hellas Verona on loan from Udinese last summer.
