The English Premier League authorities have announced four new rules for the 2024/2025 season aimed at addressing shortcomings and enhancing the quality of the game for fans.
Firstly, the duration of additional time, which was notably long during the 2023/2024 season and drew complaints from some stakeholders, will be reduced to protect players' health.
Secondly, only team captains will be allowed to approach referees to discuss issues related to misunderstandings and officiating. Any other player who does so will receive a booking.
Thirdly, a semi-automated offside system will be introduced, utilizing technology to determine offsides instead of assistant referees, which has sometimes led to controversies.
Here are the four rules to be introduced in the Premier League during the 2024/2025 season as written by CentreGoals' X account:
1.Stoppage time will be shorter, only added if goal celebrations exceed 30 seconds.
2. Semi-automated offsides will start after September’s international breaks.
3.Players who are not captains will be automatically carded if they confront referees.
4.Referees will no longer automatically give a yellow card for non-deliberate handballs.
The 2024/25 English Premier League season is set to begin on Friday, August 16, 2024, with an opening fixture between Manchester United and Fulham.
The subsequent fixtures will continue from August 17 to August 18, 2024.
