Highlife legend Alexander Lucky Mensah, popularly known in Ghana’s music scene as Lucky Mensah, transitioned from music to football a few years ago with the establishment of a football club.
However, the celebrated singer has now taken his passion for the sport a step further by training to secure a coaching license.
The man known for his exceptional musical talent and some of Ghana’s greatest hit songs is now exploring a long-held passion. Lucky Mensah is currently part of the cohort undergoing training to become certified football coaches at the Ghana Football Association’s CAF License D Coaching program which is held at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
Upon completing this training, Lucky Mensah will gain the technical expertise to develop and nurture football talent. Already serving as a trainer at LM Soccer Academy, he believes this new path will better equip him to train young players.
“Without coaching skills, you won’t know what to do in football. I manage LM Soccer Academy, which caters to children aged 10 to 17. So I decided to pursue this training to gain the skills needed to coach them effectively,” he shared in an interview with 3Sports.
Lucky Mensah explained that this decision is not a spur-of-the-moment choice. Football has always been a part of his life; as a young man, he had dreams of either becoming a footballer or contributing to the sport as an administrator.
Reflecting on his career journey, he noted that his success in the music industry created opportunities that allowed him to venture into football.
“I’ve been a footballer before, but my goal was to stay involved in the sport, even if I didn’t become a professional player. God has blessed me through music, opening many doors and enabling me to form a team five years ago. This has always been my passion. While I still have my recording studio, my primary focus now is on football,” he added.
