Trey Huang, an American-born Ghanaian unicyclist, has stated that hospitality is a key reason he chose to represent Ghana over the United States.

He mentioned that after living in Ghana for some time, he appreciates how welcoming Ghanaians are, making everyone feel at home, even strangers.

Trey also highlighted the safety he feels in Ghana, noting that he can go out at any time without security concerns.

In an interview with sports journalist Mufatwu Nabila, Trey expressed his love for riding and his commitment to making Ghana proud in international cycling competitions.

"I like Ghana. There may be a few nice things in the US, but Ghana has such amazing people who are hospitable, generous, and welcoming. I can just go out and talk with anyone in town, meet anyone, and everyone is so open. That is what is so amazing about Ghana—the people," he said.

William Huang, Trey's father, also shared an anecdote about their encounters with the Ghana police.

"The police will stop us at a barrier, and while we are talking with them, Trey will get out and start riding because he's always active. The police forget about us and start snapping selfies with him. Even at immigration stops, they recognize him, and he's always happy to ride," William stated.

Trey Huang won a gold medal at the 2024 Unicycle World Championships, finishing first in the Stillstand event.

He also won a bronze medal in the 30m Wheelwalk event, bringing his total medal count to four at the championships, having won two medals in the 2022 edition.

Trey was born in the US but grew up in Ghana after his parents relocated to the West African country.
