Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah has charged the senior national female team, Black Queens to demonstrate their patriotism by winning the African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) which is scheduled to take place in Ghana this November.
Ghana placed third at the last AWCON held in 2016 and have failed to win the AWCON trophy on three occasions, losing all the final games to fellow West African side Nigeria.
But Speaking at a ceremony to unveil the tournaments mascot, theme song and website, Isaac Asiamah encouraged the Queens to win gold for the country just as the Black Stars B did last year at the WAFU Nations Cup.
Isaac Asiamah told the Queens, “ it’s important to note that we have said that we are hosting, but let me tell you we are hosting and winning.”
“Let me be honest with you, this tournament is about you, demonstrate your hard sense of patriotism and nationalism. Ghana is waiting for you, get us the gold nothing but the gold,” the Sports Minister added.
The Black Queens won the 2018 WAFU tournament in Ivory Coast under the stewardship of Coach Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo.
However, Coach Bashiru Hayford has been appointed to man the position whiles Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo serves as the deputy.
