Huddersfield boss David Wagner has confirmed interest in signing Ghana defender Andy Yiadom from Barnsley.

Yiadom was reported to be having a medical at Huddersfield on Thursday ahead of his planned move from Barnsley.

The 25-year-old full-back is set to complete the short trip up from Oakwell after a breakthrough in talks between the Yorkshire clubs.

David Wagner has beaten Swansea to his signature, with the Welsh club bidding £3million but failing to secure a deal and now he wants Yiadom.

“Everybody knows I rate the player [Yiadom], we like him and hopefully we can progress something," Wagner said.

“We already know we have some new faces and we are very lucky and happy to have been able to make signings early and have them work with us in pre-season.

“While he [Yiadom] isn’t signed for us, I don’t really like to speak about him because he is a Barnsley player.”

Yiadom will be Huddersfield’s ELEVENTH signing in a hectic summer of transfers following promotion to the Premier League.

Steve Mounie, Laurent Depoitre, Mathias Jorgensen, Jonas Lossl, Aaron Mooy, Tom Ince, Kasey Palmer, Danny Williams, Scott Malone and Elias Kachunga have already arrived.

And Yiadom will compete for a place after a stunning rise from non-league football and League Two with Barnet before catching the eye of clubs in the second tier.

He moved to Barnsley a year ago but only had a year left on his contract, sparking interest from clubs in taking him on a cut-price deal this window.

Yiadom, who can play on both flanks, was called up to the Ghana squad as reward for his fine form and he went to the African Cup of Nations.
