For many years colts football was described as the bedrock of Ghana football. Celebrated football stars like Osei Kofi, Abedi Pele, Stephen Appiah, Asamoah Gyan and their likes are all products of colts football.

The last few years have, however, seen a neglect of the football style that once fed the country with some its best footballers.

The lack of infrastructure and the advent of academy football have resulted in colts football being relegated to the background.

The situation with colts football is so dire that, President Akufo-Addo during a presentation of the 2018 State of the Nation Address spoke about the need for the country to revisit the football style that once gave the nation all the football heroes it boasts of.

The president held that the resurrection of colts football is paramount to the development of the game and that his government will put in place measures to revive it.

He mentioned that the Inner City and Zongo Development Ministry and the Ghana Football Association have joined forces to put in place measures that will aid in the revival of colts football.

“In partnership with the Inner City and Zongo Development Ministry and the Ghana Football Association, we are constructing a number of football pitches in the Zongos and across the rest of the country, to aid in the revival of colts football,” says the President.

But somewhere in Cape Coast, the heart of the Central Region, gutter-to-gutter football, a rather unconventional way and style of football, akin to colts football is thriving.

A report by Tv3’s Yaw Ofosu Larbi sheds light on this interesting brand of football.
