Former Ghanaian footballer, Nii Odartey Lamptey, has detailed how a moment of introspection prevented him from taking an action that might have changed the course of his life negatively after he learned of the paternal statuses of his supposed children with his ex-wife.

Odartey Lamptey told Dan Kwaku Yeboah in an interview that his immediate reaction after the results of the DNA tests were revealed to him was to pick up a gun and do something drastic.

However, in the heat of the moment, he reflected soberly and concluded that whatever he intended to do with the gun was not the right option.

According to Odartey Lamptey, he realized at that moment that using the gun would have turned his life around for the worse, and that became a crucial point in how he dealt with the whole crisis.

“When the issue happened, I wanted to use my gun. It was in my Tundra, but I decided I would not do anything to jeopardize my life, so I did not use it. I was broken, but I was very patient about it, and that has led me to where I am today. I believe it was God who spoke to me, and so I decided not to use my gun. It used to be in my Tundra, but I decided not to touch the gun again,” he said.

Providing further details on how he handled the whole situation, Odartey Lamptey said that he dedicated himself to his work, which allowed him to get his mind off the saga.

“I strongly believe that as a man, you need to marry your job. When the issue happened to me, when I came here, I listened to some of the recordings I did on my phone. If you don’t get close to your job, you’ll lose your job and also lose the other things that you focused on,” he added.

About Odartey Lamptey's divorce saga

The marriage between Odartey Lamptey and Gloria Appiah hit the rocks in 2013 after a DNA test revealed that the three children he had raised for years were not his biological children.

Odartey Lamptey recounted that close friends advised him to undertake a DNA test on the kids after receiving many recordings of activities of his ex-wife.

He, therefore, did the DNA test which he described as a defining moment that resulted in a divorce.

After the divorce, the footballer had to relinquish his 5-bedroom house at Dome and pay GH¢400,000 in alimony to his ex-wife.

His ex-wife, Gloria, instead insisted on receiving the seven-bedroom East Legon mansion, ultimately winning a lawsuit that ordered the footballer to vacate the house within an hour, leading to her occupancy.

However, in March 2022, a High Court ruling ordered Gloria Appiah to hand over keys to the East Legon mansion back to the former Ghanaian football star within a month.

He is now married to Ruweida Yakubu. Their union started in 2014. Odartey has three children with Ruweida, consisting of two girls and a boy.
