I am not against sports - Terkper

Finance Minister Seth Terkper has explained that, the massive cut in the budgetary allocation to the Sports Minister, is in conformity to a general trend of cutting expenditure in all sectors.

The budget of the Sports Ministry has experienced a massive 40% cut for the year 2016.

It is the fourth successive year the budget for sports has experienced such a decline.

This has led to a massive hue and cry amongst the various sporting federations who know per the slashed budget, funding for their activities will be made even more difficult.

But Finance Minister Seth Terkper says the cut is only consistent to trends in the other sectors.

“Across all Ministries were required to cut down on their expenditure so it is not that we are targeting sports,” he said.

Many believe the massive cut forms part of conditions being satisfied by the state over the bailout secured from the IMF.
