An Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association, Dr Randy Abbey, has denied knowledge of mounting pressure on Sudan coach Kwasi Appiah to exit the council.

Sports Journalist Muftawu Nabila Abdulai, who is well-connected within the GFA, reported that there was mounting pressure on Appiah to resign from the GFA Executive Council.

“Grapevines have it that Sudan head coach Kwasi Appiah is being told to resign as an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association. If Appiah resigns, 'Chief of Staff Michael Bogdan Osekre could be a likely candidate to replace him on the ExCo.

"It doesn’t appear Appiah will step down, though. Apparently, in the last Executive Council meeting, Appiah excused himself when matters of the Black Stars were about to be discussed,” Nabila wrote on X on August 14, 2024.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb, Dr Randy Abbey stated emphatically that he was unaware of any conspiracy to force Kwasi Appiah to relinquish his position.

“I am unaware of that. I am unaware of any pressure on him to leave,” Dr Randy Abbey told GhanaWeb in an interview.

He, however, confessed that it sometimes gets uncomfortable deliberating over some key issues in the presence of Kwasi Appiah, although he makes good inputs.

“It could be uncomfortable sometimes, but I think that first of all, it's something that we are dealing with. We have him, he contributes quite well to our meetings and all that.”

The furore over Kwasi Appiah’s apparent resignation arose after Ghana was paired in the same group as Sudan for the 2025 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers.
