Former Black Stars and Ashanti Gold goalkeeper Fatau Dauda
Former Black Stars and Ashanti Gold goalkeeper Fatau Dauda recently shared how his signing-on bonus from AshGold enabled him to build his first house.
Reflecting on his financial decisions during his time in the Ghana Premier League, Dauda highlighted the importance of discipline and wise money management.
"I remember the first house I built was from AshGold money. My mom had a piece of land, and when I got my signing fee from Okwawu United to AshGold, I used that money to build a four-bedroom house on my mother’s land. My little brothers and I benefited from it, and it helped us get to where we are now," Dauda recounted.
He emphasized the importance of financial discipline for footballers. "If you are disciplined, the money you earn from the Premier League can go a long way. Some players think they have more years to play and tend to misuse their money, but football is unpredictable with injuries and other factors. I made sure to use my first earnings wisely, even though it wasn’t a huge amount."
Dauda’s advice to fellow players is to make sound financial decisions early on. "You don’t need to wait for big money before thinking about stability. It’s about the decisions you make with what you have."
Dauda began his football career in 2004 with Ghana Division One League club Okwawu United. In 2006, he signed with Ghana Premier League club Ashanti Gold SC and was part of the Ghana national team for the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, making 26 appearances for Ghana.
