CAF team inspects stadium's site

Takoradi, Jan.5, GNA - The three-man team from the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) on Thursday inspected the site for the construction of the Sekondi Sports Stadium at Essipong near Sekondi. The are to asses the country' preparedness towards the hosting of the CAN 2008 championship.

The team was made up of Mr Slim Aloulou, Leader of the delegation, Mr Suleiman Habuba, Director of Communication and Mr Jean Marie Weber, Marketing Advisor.

They held discussions with officials of Shanghai Construction Limited, contractors of the stadium, who showed them the programme of work and design of the proposed stadium.

The team also inspected hotel facilities in Sekondi-Takoradi including the Takoradi Beach Hotel and Raybow Hotel.

Speaking to the GNA Sports after the inspection, Mr Rex Danquah, Chief Operations Officer of CAN 2008, said the CAF team was satisfied with the contractor's programme of work and the design of the stadium and are hopeful that the contractor would deliver on schedule. He said CAF inspection teams would visit Ghana again in March or April and in September to assess the progress of works.
